Meeting held 7th April 2011
Suggested theme: "Sailing" and "Missing"
From a choice of two subjects –Sailing and Missing Mike started with his poem “The Missing Inch”, wishing he was taller, to look the tall guys in the eyes and pull the birds; deep down he knew he was a big man as fearsome as Greeks and Turks. Roy relaxed us with his “Tunisian Massage”. We could practically feel the Arab maiden probing, pulling, pressing and pummelling with her oiled and scented hands, easing away Roy’s aches and pains! Robert brought us back to reality with “Early Birds” describing the swallows arriving – harbingers of summer – and asking why do they leave their warm climes to come here amid the cold and rain to huddle under the roofs after flying over two thousand miles. Robert followed with “Swallows Reply” concluding with they don’t know why!
Elizabeth’s option “Sailing” followed the journey of a silk scarf plucked from her neck by a gust of wind. It sailed away, and we heard about different people who found it and what they did with it, finally discovered by a young boy on the beach who attached it as a tail to his kite. The last sighting was the kite with it’s new ‘scarf tail’ proudly sailing through the air.
“Nature Mislaid” was Jill’s poem detailing the missing (mislaid) plants etc of Nature over the years. Penny gave us a very good account of the camaraderie amongst Yachtsmen in her poem entitled “The Sawanaka”, very interesting, as was the story leading up to it. Sue used Missing as the option for her poem “Missing You”.
We had a very interesting meeting, discussions and laughter.Next Meeting:
