Meeting held 1st February 2012
“This is how it began” was, aptly, the subject for the first meeting of 2012 for the First Thursday Writers Group. The six members present had interpreted this in various ways – Roy wrote a poem on how a popular game show had come into being, Bill’s poem made us realise how we begin to look at things with a different perspective as we get older and Mike outlined for us a bleak society that may face us at some time in the future based on Orwellian prose. Stef’s short story told of how hiding rubies in a Steiff bear brought about the start of a devastating event for a child and Jean related the true events that occurred at the start of a fraught Christmas visit . Iain read an adaptation of part of a detective novel – literally the start of “work in progress”.
The subject of March’s meeting is “it unsettles me....” which is quite a challenge for us all and if anyone would like to write about what unsettles them, then write it down and join us at the next meeting on Thursday 1st March at 7.30 p.m. at the Plough Arts Centre.
